While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you can take proactive steps to ensure that your face remains smooth and clear of blemishes and acne. For environmentally conscious beauty-seekers (who may be leery of using commercial soaps and cleansers), consider using rice water to wash your face. In Asian cultures, rice water was not simply poured down the drain once the rice was done. Traditionally, rice water was used as an energy drink, as a starch for cleaning clothes, and for washing the hair and face.
- Cook a serving of rice according to the instructions on the packet. Typically, for a two to three person serving, boil one cup of rice with two cups of water.
- Strain the rice and save the water. Use the rice for your meal or put the rice in the refrigerator for later. Let the water cool.
- Soak a clean washcloth in the cooled rice water. Wipe the washcloth on your face and in your hair. Scrub your cheeks and your forehead. Do not press so hard as to irritate your skin, but press firmly enough to remove any dirt and oil. Repeat as necessary.
