Sun ProtectionThe Mayo Clinic states the most important thing that a person can do for their skin is to protect it from the sun. Sun exposure damages the skin and increases the risk of developing skin cancer. It also ages the skin and makes wrinkles more prominent. People should avoid the sun during its peak hours — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — and if they do have to get out in the sun they should wear a sunscreen that has a sun protection factor that is 15 or greater. Sunscreen should be applied at least 20-30 minutes prior to going outside and it should be reapplied after being in the water or sweating.
